There are many Christians in Bahrain with a large number of registered churches and congregations :- Orthodox, Roman The largest Christian community is the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with its principal worship centre in Manama. The Sacred Heart School was founded there but has grown out of those premises. [ www.stchcathedral.org.bh ]. St. Christopher’s School, the largest British curriculum school in Bahrain was founded in the cathedral compound. More than 30 years ago the school moved to larger premises and is now located in three different locations away from Manama. The National Evangelical Church (NEC) in Manama dates back to the end of the nineteenth century when Christian medical missionaries of the Reformed Church of America came here. Their legacy remains in both the NEC and the American Mission Hospital located in the same compound. to many different congregations catering for many nationalities and denominations. Many years ago a multi-denominational Christian church building was erected in Awali by BAPCO, the Bahrain oil company. A number of denominations utilise this building which although small has a very devotional atmosphere with a beautiful stained glass window.
